What YouTube thumbnail sizes are available
YouTube stores several copies of every thumbnail, and the one you see depends on where you see it. A search result gets a small one, the watch page gets a larger one, and the biggest copy is usually never shown in the interface at all.
This tool asks for all of them and lists the ones that exist:

Nothing is upscaled or invented. If a video was uploaded in 240p in 2006, its largest thumbnail is 480 by 360, and no tool can change that.

Most downloaders break because they scrape a page that was never meant to be read by a machine. This one does not. Thumbnail addresses follow a fixed, long-stable pattern, and the video title comes from YouTube's public oEmbed endpoint, which needs no key and no account.
That makes it about as durable as a free tool of this kind can be.
